What we collect
When you run a speed test, we collect:
- Download and upload speed measurements
- Ping latency and jitter
- Your IP address (partially masked for storage — last octet removed)
- Your approximate location (city, country) derived from your IP address
- Your ISP name derived from your IP address
- Browser type and device characteristics (screen size, touch support, etc.)
What we do NOT collect
- Your name, email address, or any account information
- Cookies for tracking or advertising purposes
- Any personally identifiable information beyond your IP address
How we use the data
Speed test results are used to:
- Display your results to you
- Generate aggregate statistics (country and ISP speed rankings)
- Improve the accuracy of our speed test
- Compare your speed against others in your country
We do not sell, share, or provide individual speed test results to third parties.
IP address handling
Your full IP address is used during the speed test to determine your approximate location and ISP. When results are stored, the last octet of your IP address is removed (e.g., 192.168.1.xxx). Shared result pages never display your full IP address.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects anonymized usage data. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Geolocation
If you click "Wrong location?" and grant permission, your browser's geolocation API provides your coordinates. This is used solely to correct the location displayed on your speed test result. We do not store precise GPS coordinates.
Data retention
Aggregate speed test data is retained indefinitely for statistical purposes. Individual test results with masked IP addresses may be retained for up to 12 months.
Third-party services
- Google Analytics — site usage analytics
- Google Fonts — font delivery
- ipinfo.io — IP geolocation lookup (your IP is sent to determine your location and ISP)
Your rights
You can run speed tests without creating an account. No login is required. If you wish to have a specific shared result removed, contact us at the email below.
